Solar and wind power are clean and efficient, but the times you need to heat your home – say two AM some January morning – they may not be available. They may have seasonal availability problems in your area as well. Low sun angles or calm winds occur everywhere. But if you can store that energy, you can run your Ground Source Heat Pump whenever you need to.

Fortunately, there is a solution.

Most states now mandate that utilities “buy back” locally generated power that their customers produce with solar cells or wind turbines. At times when solar and wind power are plentiful, your electrical meter will run backwards and you will be credited for the power you produce. In essence, you are using the grid as power storage.

We can install sufficient solar or wind power generation capacity so that over the course of a year, the power consumed by your Ground Source Heat Pump is zeroed out by the power you produce.

Small lot?

Let’s face it. It can be difficult to find enough space for solar or wind power generation on a city lot. But we’ve got a solution for that as well.

IRE has established relationships with solar and wind power producers. If you can not fit sufficient solar or wind power generation at your home, we’ll install it some place more conducive to the elements. Once “your” capacity is installed, we will send you a check on a quarterly basis to pay you for the power you generated. (Or to pay you for the power your GSHP used, whichever way you want to think about it.)

The result is a Net Zero Installation© wherever you live.

And if you move, you can take “your” power generation with you. We will continue sending you the proceeds of “your” power generation for the lifetime of that system, generally 20 years.
